Weekend @ Boston

Just had an awesome time at Boston this weekend.

It didn't start too well when I flew in on Friday around 5ish and found that I had lost my debit card during my travel. Thankfully, Jess had some mullah for us to use, otherwise we would have been starving children...

Anyway Jess got in later at around 9ish and we went out to eat. Afterwards, Jess surprised me with a viewing of Alice in Wonderland in 3d. tbh, i wasn't particularly impressed with the 3d part and prolly wouldve rather watched it in 2d. I thought that the movie had some creative moments but that there were also pretty lame parts.

The next day, Naomi and her friend Louisa got in around 130 and we chilled around watching ABDC and then went to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe. Pretty neat place but too expensive for rather mediocre food but I guess we pay for the environment rather than the meal. We then just chilled around Boston checking out some of the ad hoc shows people were doing on the street.

Then, we went to the muse concert. We got in ok enough and bought t-shirts for each of us (@ 33 dollars a piece). Our seats were also pretty amazing being right next to the stage. When muse started it was ridiculous, with one of the sickest openings ever. They basically had these three towers covered in some cloth and showing some images when suddenly the cloth fell and we saw each member of muse in the middle of the tower playing Uprising. They then played Resistance and New Born. It was just an incredible show with the sickest lightings and at one point they even had gigantic eyeball balloons going around the stadium.

Now I just got home today...amazing weekend!

Summer Recap

So I am now in my last week of my 12 week summer internship with NVIDIA. It's been an interesting and more eventful summer than past summers. Before summer started I did make a list of goals for myself to accomplish before summer ended so let's see how well I did.

1) Play a ton of poker and build up a bankroll

So I started the summer playing a bit of poker every night with Raffy and built my roll from around $80 to around $160 playing NL Holdem $.01-$.02 and eventually moving to $.02-$.05. Around July though there was one day where I just played horribly and lost around $20. I haven't played since. So I give myself a B- in this category.

2) Run and get in shape

I totally failed in this goal for the summer. I started running a tiny bit and excercising in the beginning of the summer but since I carpool with my uncle I have to get up pretty early everyday and the trips are about 30-45 min long to and from NVIDIA. So I am pretty tired by the time I get back from work and am in no mood to run or anything. I prolly gained a bit of weight if anything else. F

3) Do well in NVIDIA internship

For the most part I think my internship went pretty well. I got a pretty awesome project to work on and finished it for the most part much earlier than expected I think. Because of this though, I often found myself trying to find things to do during work which I believe led to me being rather less than optimally productive the last couple of weeks or so. The good thing though is that my slides for my presentation are pretty much disgustingly good. B+

4) Work on some personal website

So although I only started my website a few weeks ago I think its looking pretty good. In the end, Jess and I are collaborating to make one awesome conglamoration of a website. A side positive to this has been that I have been able to learn PHP in the process. Have to figure out some things to add to it though. If you havent seen it check it out: www.ece.cmu.edu/~jprimero. B+

So overall with the exception of getting in shape I think I accomplished by goals well enough. There were some other things though which I accomplished which were'nt part of my goal list. Working at NVIDIA has sharpened my Linux knowledge quite a bit. I learned a bit about how ttys work and got better at using vim and gdb. I also got my media library growing again. Im up to around 120G of music. Some music I "discovered" this summer and enjoyed are "The Decemberists", "Dream Theater", "Depeche Mode", and "Metallica", im sure there are more I just forget now. I also got to see a bunch of movies including "Hangover", "Public Enemies", "The Hurt Locker", and "Up", all of which were pretty good movies.

So what did you accomplish this summer?

UPDATE: Fuck my pants...I just got offered a fulltime job from NVIDIA. This summer just started looking a whole lot nicer!
